Success Stories

When I joined the Total Makeover Challenge, I was in need of major changes in my life. I recently lost my Mom just 5 months prior to Heart Disease at the young age of 54. My Mother was my everything and of course I took the loss of her very hard. I started to use food to deal with the huge void I felt and gained a bunch of weight quickly. I have 4 children myself, and it was my children who truly motivated me to deal with my grief in a healthier way, as I knew they were watching and I had to set an example for them. I know my Mom would have wanted me to show them that life has to go on after death ever though it may be hard.

I thought the Total Makeover Challenge would be a great way to get me motivated to make the changes and to keep me accountable. I started to use exercising at the gym as a way to deal with my grief and even joined a learn to run group. With exercise and better eating habits, I slowly started feeling a bit more like myself. I was completely shocked to find out that I had placed 4th in the Top 10 out of 66 other woman and shocked again to had found a spot in the Top 5, after an amazing experience of starring in a Fashion Show with the other wonderful ladies I met in the Challenge. The pampering that we received throughout the challenge was unbelievable!! New hair, makeup, nails, Earls Chefs kitchen dinner experience, modeling lessons, starring in a fashion show, life changing seminars, amazing guest speakers, photo shoots and a relaxing spa getaway at Sunpeaks with the other ladies, were some of my favorite moments, truly making this a TOTAL MAKEOVER!

As the Challenge continued on, I learned so much more about myself then I ever knew before. I made amazing new friendships along the way and, most importantly got my health back again!! I lost 39 lbs and 39 total inches throughout the challenge. Most importantly to me though, I got my cholesterol levels out of the risk zone and back into a healthy range reducing my risk of Heart Disease. I am now able to be the Mother and Wife that I wanted to be, the woman that my Mother raised.

I’m still in shock today that my name was called as the Winner of The Total Makeover Challenge 2013 and truly grateful to all of the Sponsors that help make this opportunity so special for us. I am also super excited to be heading to VEGAS with my husband to celebrate this November, which was the top prize for being the winner of the challenge! This Experience turned out to be more then I had ever expected it to be. I am now working full time at Go Fusion Fitness ( the gym that sponsors this event, ) and I am even coaching learn to run programs and training for my first half marathon coming up in the new year. This experience was so amazing that I have decided to come on board as assistant coordinator of The Total Makeover Challenge this year, so that I can be a part of this experience again. This time I get to watch and encourage other woman who have decided to make healthy changes in their lives.

I can’t believe that we are at the end of our Total Makeover Journey, not that it is the end for me at all!  I plan to continue working hard inside the gym and out – lifestyle changes is what it’s all about!  I am so thankful to have been given this amazing opportunity to not only lose weight and regain health and wellness, but to be stretched to take a real look at myself – strengths, weaknesses, gifts, skills – finding purpose in what I do!  It’s been fun to be able to learn to model and getting to do the Fashion Show was a definite highlight for me, something I never thought I’d ever do in my lifetime!  I’ve also made some amazing new friends both in and through the contest, and outside of the contest in the faithful supporters and those that continuously tell me they don’t recognise me anymore!  So fun!  We still have one more weigh in and I hope to have hit the 50lb mark (sitting at 47.4lbs lost so far and 41inches).  My knees haven’t bothered me in over a month, even got to run the last 3 weekends without pain.  And I’ve been able to sing again!  Thank you to everyone who made this contest possible – I wouldn’t be the confident woman  I am today without you!

I’m truly amazed at the transformation in both my self and fellow contestants in the past 18 weeks..  I am writing this truly grateful and forever emotionally changed from this challenge.  I can honestly say that being part of the Total Makeover challenge has changed not only my appearance but my self image in such a positive way.  I look back at my journals from the beginning of this challenge and am so surprisingly delighted on the difference it has made to my overall health and mental well being.  I am proud of the woman I am today and the accomplishments I have achieve in this short amount of time.  The end of this challenge is truly bitter sweet… For I am sad that it is over but excited on the new life it has given me.  The end of this challenge truly is the beginning of my new fulfilling life and healthy lifestyle both mind and body.  This does not end for me tomorrow night but has open the door to the rest of my life.. I will be working continuously on my weight loss goals and personal goals with the amazing staff at Go Fusion and my new friends.. Thank you for impacting my life in such a positive way …..And with all that said I will leave you with this …..” HATE ME, OR LOVE ME …….I’M STILL GONNA SHINE ! ”

I cannot believe my journey thru this competition is coming to an end in a few short weeks! I am truly going to miss all the faces and support system that has been a huge part of where I am as far as reaching my goals. I am so proud to say I have knocked off just over 45 pounds and over 35 inches *smile*  I have enjoyed every aspect of this competition, even the hard push me parts lol!! I have come so far from that girl that stepped on the scale weighing the heaviest in this competition back in january.  If someone told me back in January that I am going to be 50 pounds lighter come summer I would have laughed in their face. Not only would I not have enough time for ME to do my workouts but I tended to fall off the lose weight wagon so many times, oh about 2 weeks into it! I am so proud of myself for sticking to it this time and could have NOT done it without the great support of this gym, family and friends and all the sponsors and of course the other amazing TOP 20 ladies..SO THANK U AGAIN for being a part of this journey with me and sharing yours with me! One of the hard parts of the competition for me was being away from home so much..but I know it will all be worth it in the end! My youngest heard me talking to a friend about having a goal of being able to ski with them this year and he came running up to me and gave me a big hug and said..MOM are you really going to ski with us this year..that makes all the hard work so worth it! My oldest son is graduating this friday 10th and I will be wearing that pretty little dress that he chose! My weight loss journey is far from being over. I still have about 60 pounds to take off to reach my unltimate goal..this I will do before the next set of Total Makeover girls are chosen so I can show them that anything is possible EVEN if your the biggest girl..if I can do it YOU can do it! I will continue to volunteer for the gyms daycare and hope to be involved with the next competition to volunteer as well! And to you Duane..thank you so much for hanging in there and being such a huge support system for me! This amazing guy quit smoking 2 packs a day the day I found out I was one of the TOP 20..and is still smoke free! Well I better stop there before I write a book lol! If you chose ME as your TOP1..THANK U!!!!
